X-Mas Time

Video

So its coming fast. But i don’t have to tell you all that. I can’t believe it’s almost the new year. What a crazy year 2009 turned out to be. Wow. There were a lot of major improvements at the TDI. Lot’s still to come.

So we have all sorts of deals for Christmas. Ball Pythons are free with a setup. Adult male bearded dragons are $49.99. Baby bearded dragons are free with a setup. Corn snakes are free with a setup. We just got a big shipment of leopard geckos for those of you who are wanting them for Christmas.

We are getting ready to drop our snake room into hibernation. That’s always a nice change of pace. We are also getting ready to fire up our second snake room. We also recently acquired a trio of Rhino Iguanas (Cyclura). This is very exciting for us. You will ultimately see one of these guys on display, although it may be a year before that happens. Right now we are acclimating the animals so that we can ultimately breed them.

Anyway, it’s Saturday. It’s getting busy in here. Time to make it happen. On that note, enjoy the following video:

Whoa

Video

What’s up world. Been a couple weeks. We’ve had quite a bit of chaos these past few weeks. It all began with the Chicago Reptile show. There were a bunch of us running around up there. I ran into a few of you. I imagine i missed a few of you as well. We picked up some nice new breeder stock. In fact, we’ve got quite a bit going on with the breeding for next year. Here’s our list of animals set to produce for next year:

Jungle Carpet Pythons
Children’s Pythons
Spotted Pythons
Rosy Boas
Red Tail Boas
Hypos Red Tail Boas
Hogg Island Boas
Dumerils Boas
Bearded Dragons
Veiled Chameleons
Carpet Chameleons
Yellow Ackies Monitors
Crested Geckos
Various Corn Snakes
Albino Nelsons Milk Snakes
Gray Banded King Snakes
Honduran Milk Snakes
Brazilian Rainbow Boas
Woma Pythons
Emerald Tree Boas

So yea, we’ve been busy. All of these guys are ready to go. The only ones that may not be ready are the Womas. But we’ll see.

On top of the breeding, we’ve been weather proofing the building for the winter. It’s right around the corner. We are also getting ready to do more modification to the rodent room. Sean and I will be tackling that project beginning this week sometime.

Those of you on our MySpace and FaceBook may have noticed some chatter about a Television show… Well, that one is a long story. Basically there has been some serious interest from the guys in Hollywood. I don’t have any specific details at the moment. As we learn more, we’ll keep all of you posted.

We are also in the process of building a second snake room in our breeding facility. We will have that up and running this week. This will allow us to have one room that we hibernate and one room that is warm year round.

So yea, lots of shit going on as usual. Only so many hours in a day. Anyway, its Monday morning. Lots to do. Until next time, enjoy this short vid.

Blah Blah Blah

General

Blah blah blah is right.  So happy Sunday morning…   Horray.  Not shit on the agenda today.  We have one party and it’s at the shop.  So in essence, it’s a pretty laid back day.  We are shooting to have some new animals in stock this week.  We hoped to have them last week, but our distributors had crappy availability.  I’m not to sure what we are expecting yet, but we have quite a few cages to fill.

You know, the crappiest part about this blog is the lack of personality i’m able to give it.  I’d love to be able to type about the crappy time i had the other day, or a great triumph.  But that’s difficult when the entire world is reading your words.  You have to be careful what you say or you could offend someone.  Espcially in the sue-happy country we call home.  I think that’s why days get missed on the blog.  The inability to really express one’s thoughts.  Some people would say fuck it, say the truth anyway.  But those of you who really know me know the great ability for my mouth to get me in trouble.

Anyway, i guess that’s the little bit of truthful insight for today.  It’s about time to get rolling for the day.  I have to hit Home Depot this morning.  Lots of odds and ends to tie up this week.  Until next time…

Syrup

General

This has nothing to do with Syrup. But syrup certainly is delicious. I like it on all my breakfast food.

So you may have noticed no postings the last few days. Well, Schwag happened. :) We headed down there for half of last week. It was a much needed vacation after CRABS. Speaking of CRABS, we are working on a bigger space right now. The Ramada was great to us, but it was just a bit to small. I’m sure most of you will agree that it got quite hot and cramped in there. But we’ll fix that next year for sure.

So the agenda for the next few months… Well, the Chicago Reptile Show is coming up. We’ll have a few people up there running around. As for that it’s time to get rolling on some internal improvements. We are putting in another snake room i our breeding facility. Our current snake room has the ability to heat and cool for hibernation. But we need another room that is warm all year. It will be a simple conversion.

We will be doing some work in the rat room to better serve everyone next year. We are pretty much out of space for live rodents and we keep selling out of the larger sizes. It’s been quite frustrating for a lot of people this summer. But we will grow with you guys. Rest assured, we’ll get something figured out.

We are also looking to hire for the upcoming holiday season. We need someone with open availability including mornings and weekends. Experience is a big A+. If you are interested, shoot us a resume. You can email it to admin@thetdi.com.

Anyway, time to get back to the grind…

C.R.A.B.S.

General

Hello strangers. You’ve all probably been wondering what happened to the blog the last few months. Well, it got C.R.A.B.S. :) The show took every ounce of effort and concentration from me since July. But we survived and C.R.A.B.S. was a huge success. Those of you who made it know what i mean. Those of you who didn’t make it, well, we hope to see you next year for sure. We had an attendance a hair under 1200 people. It was quite a success for a first show in a new area. And mark my words, this show will grow and it will grow big. Those of you who know us and have watched the shop grow know we mean business. So mark your calendars. There will be more C.R.A.B.S. to come!

Now we move into Fall. We are getting breeding ready for next year. We have all sorts of project ready for winter. Need to build several racks. We also need to make an improvement in the cooling in the rodent room. We also have a Facebook account now. Stephanie maintains that and has been doing a nice job at keeping new pictures rolling in. Be sure to look it up.

Now that life has fallen back into place, i intend to revive the blog. We have some catching up to do… :)

Update

General

So life has been crazy at the TDI over the past month. I know i haven’t posted anything in a while. The upcoming Reptile Show has been keeping us B-U-S-Y! The response we are getting is overwhelming. We have vendors from around the country wanting to be part of the show. Make sure you all mark your calendar. Here is a direct link to the show website:

http://thetyedyediguana.com/pages/Reptile-Show-%28C.R.A.B.S.%29.html

Anyway, we brought in a new line of Chameleon Cages. They are the Reptariums by Apogee. We don’t have them listed on the website just as of yet. They are awesome. The are by far the least expensive Chameleon cage on the market. You can get a 260 gallon cage for $99.99! Waterland tubs are the next big item to bring into the shop. Keep your eyes open for that.

We are expecting new animals this week. It’s to early in the week to say for sure what we are expecting. More on that in a few days.

Crime & MetallicA

General

So Metallica sucks and crime is on the rise… I know, i know. I haven’t posted a blog entry in weeks and this is how is start.

Well Metallica totally sucks. I wish they would quit trying. Their career ended in 1994 with the Black album. Since then it’s been like kicking a dead horse. I heard some total BS from them this morning on the point and it made me cringe. Something about a bunch of 50 year old guys trying to compete with changing times. Weird…

And crime, Jesus Christ! This is a failed economy and crime is rampant. Fairview Heights and O’Fallon are no longer safe. I don’t care what anyone says. O’Fallon will try to convince you that it is a safe and sound community. But that wouldn’t explain why last night at 1am i was crouching under a window with a loaded 357 while a chopper was circling overhead. This is crazy. I’m sure if you all have noticed the increase in crime as a whole. It’s nuts. Personally, i think it’s time for America to arm itself if it hasn’t already. A well armed populous is the best defense against tyranny…

Anyway, we were supposed to get a huge animal shipment in yesterday… Well, needless to say, they didn’t show up. I’m still trying to find out exactly what went wrong. Either way, we are expecting the order to be shipped this coming Monday for Tuesday arrival.

CRABS is right around the corner. We are at the two month mark. We have about 40% of the vendor spots filled already. I hope you all are as excited as the folks here at the TDI.

We only have one party today. It’s way out in O’Fallon, MO. So it’s about a 1.5 hour drive, but that allows some quality quiet time. That’s when i get all my ideas. Scary…

Anyway, it’s Saturday AM. Time to get to it. Until next time…

Summer

General

It’s been hot, but hell yea. It’s summer. Good times. Things are going strong at the TDI. Our breeding projects are moving right along. One of our new female veiled chamelons laid a nice clutch of 72 eggs yesterday. Those will be ready right around christmas time. We just got an adult trio of Jungle Carpet Pythons from Jeff Hartwig. They are badass! We also picked up a proven pair of Children’s and Spotted Pythons.

The new tegu cage is pretty much done. The doors are getting painted today and hung tomorrow. I figure by Monday we’ll have them in the cage. They will be off display for a couple weeks once we move them. We are still bringing Waterland tubs into the store. They will be a permanent in-stock item. But i expect those to be a couple weeks before we get them.

We will likely have an animal order next week sometime. We have been buying so many animals from local breeders lately we haven’t had to order anything in. But there are a few items that need ordering.

Anyway, it’s Friday. Lots to do as usual. Until next time…
